The trading terminal is where you trade by hand. Automated strategies open and close positions from their rules; the terminal lets you do it directly — useful for discretionary trading, for managing a position a strategy opened, or just for learning how order entry feels on a paper venue before any money is real.
The terminal always trades one venue, and it tells you which up front: a PAPER or LIVE badge with the exchange name. The one thing you must know before pressing Buy is whether the money is real, so it is never hidden.
The four actions#
- Buy — open a long, or add to one.
- Sell — open a short, or add to one.
- Close — exit the open position entirely (disabled when you are flat).
- Flip — reverse the position to the opposite side in a single action — a short becomes a long, or the reverse (disabled when you are flat).
Each order is either a market order (MKT, fills at the current price) or
a limit order (LMT, fills only at a price you set). While a position is
open, the terminal shows its live PnL, updating in real time from the price
feed, with a live indicator confirming the connection.
Manual orders and strategy signals#
Here is the interaction that surprises people. A venue can be traded by both you and the strategy mapped to it. Placing a manual order does not stop the strategy — its own signals keep arriving on the same venue.
If a strategy is following signals on the venue you are trading by hand, its signals will keep opening and closing positions alongside your orders. When you want the terminal to be the only thing trading a venue, turn off Follow Parent Signals in that venue's Settings first.
Sessions#
For active manual trading, the terminal's Sessions let you switch quickly between the venues you are trading by hand, so you can watch and manage several at once without hunting through your strategy list. A strategy created for manual trading is tagged ⚡ Manual.
Practise on paper first#
Every action here behaves identically on a paper venue and a live one — which is exactly why you should learn it on paper. Open a paper venue, place a few Buys and Sells, watch the live PnL move, and Close and Flip a position, before you ever do it with real capital. See paper trading.
